Our appraisers have chosen five unique pieces from the collection to highlight, each with an interesting story. 

Københavnerstolen II

Mogens Voltelen’s celebrated lounge chair for Niels Vodder, model MV 60. Designed in 1960 and crafted in solid oak, leather and brass, it was produced in Denmark through the 1960s and ’70s – a quiet icon of Danish design.

Pierre Alechinsky, ‘Oiseau’

An oil-on-canvas composition by the Belgian CoBrA artist, signed and dated 1958. A rare chance to acquire an early, fully resolved work from one of the movement’s defining figures. Last up for auction in 1984.

A rare refractory-concrete grill

Cast with a faint reddish hue and decorated with relief cavities and knobs, this striking piece was designed by Snorre Stephensen and made at Royal Copenhagen – an unexpected material paired with sculptural ambition.

Axel Salto table bowl

A large stoneware bowl in Salto’s celebrated ‘Fuglefjer’ (bird’sfeather) glaze, with a fluted exterior, made at Saxbo in 1931–32. An early – and rare, given the short period Salto spent at Saxbo –masterwork from one of Denmark’s most important ceramicists.

Wall-mounted mahogany mirror

Fitted with a shelf and a storage compartment on a hoist mechanism, designed by Tove and Edvard Kindt-Larsen for Hotel Alexandra in 1948 and executed by master cabinetmaker Gustav Bertelsen – a rare piece of applied design history, built for a specific place and purpose.
